These glowing orange beefsteaks have delicious, low-acid, meaty flesh and a mild, sweet/tart flavor. Growing up to 2 lbs, one slice covers a piece of bread for beautiful open-faced tomato sandwiches. A gourmet favorite that holds up well for baking or broiling. Heavy crops with tall vines that will need staking. Florida grower Gary Staley discovered this tomato in the 1980's. Staley apparently was a former employee of the Amana appliance manufacturer in Amana, Iowa and named the tomato after the company, the town, or the Amana Colonies in eastern Iowa – one of America's longest-lived communal societies. No one seems to know which story is correct, so take your pick; it’s still a great tomato. Indeterminate, 80-90 days from transplant. Packet contains at least 30 seeds.
