About our pricing and why we do not combine shipping – Our tomato seeds are listed at $0.50 plus $1.50 for shipping and handling. This is because of the way Google Shopping sorts its search results. The giant seed companies and sponsored ads are always first under the default sort, and we’re buried somewhere around page 100. But fortunately, if a shopper sorts their search results by price, then our seeds will be at the top of the list at $0.50. We’d love to be able to just list them for $2.00 a packet, which is what we feel they’re worth. That's a pretty good deal in comparison to almost any seed price out there. Plus, we usually put more than 30 seeds in the packet and usually include a bonus packet of a different variety with each order. Unfortunately, there are many sellers who charge less than a dollar per packet but then add on a fortune in shipping and handling. It's deceptive, because Google doesn’t take into consideration the shipping and handling costs, just the seed price. So if we charged $2.00, those other sellers would be listed before us even though their total price is much higher. We don’t combine shipping, because it’s not just shipping – it’s also handling. Handling includes counting and packaging the seeds for sale, making and printing labels, getting the orders put together for shipment, printing packing slips, addressing shipping envelopes, and driving ten miles to town to have the post office hand cancel the envelopes so the seeds don’t get crushed in their machine. And that doesn’t even include growing, harvesting, fermenting, cleaning, and drying the seeds. So if we only charged $0.50 and not the $1.50 for all the work involved, we’d actually be losing money, and then there would be no more tomato seeds from Stoney Brook Farm and seedsofsubversion.com.
It has become necessary for Seeds of Subversion to initiate a minimum seed order policy. By the time I subtract postage, eCrater fees, PayPal fees, and shipping material costs, there's nothing left out of the $2.00 that I receive for each packet. In 2017, I had many, many orders for single packets. It's a tremendous amount of work to not make any profit. Your purchase of three or more seed packets makes it worthwhile for me to continue selling seeds and keeps Seeds of Subversion in business. If you have only ordered 1 or 2 items, please go back and order additional seeds. If you don't wish to order three or more seed packets, let me know and I'll refund your order.
