This is a beefsteak variety heirloom tomato with large (up to 1 lb) sandwich-sized fruits with few seeds. Pruden’s is not really purple, but rather a deep pink with slight shoulder ribbing. The flesh is dense, richly flavored, with a silky texture. Wonderful sugar to acid ratios, old time tomato flavor and aroma are why this variety is highly ranked in tomato taste-offs. Excellent for cooking, salsas, sandwiches, and salads. Pruden's Purple has many of the attributes of Brandywine but is earlier and more productive. The fruits mature very early for a large tomato, which makes this a good choice for short season areas. Its tolerance of cool or otherwise challenging conditions and its resistance to cracking make it a reliable friend in the tomato patch. The vigorous vines will need support. Potato-leaved type has smooth-edged leaves instead of serrated as in regular-leaf types. Indeterminate. Maturity 72 - 80 days from transplant. Packet contains at least 30 seeds.
