This beloved heirloom is believed to have originated pre-1890 in the Cherokee nation in Tennessee. The large, flattened globes are slightly ridged and can weigh in at about a pound. Ripening to a beautiful, dark, dusky pink/purple with dark shoulders, the interior ranges from deep, rich-red to brown to green. With its superb, rich, full flavor and strong tomato tang, Cherokee Purple consistently ranks high in taste tests. The vigorous vines are relatively short, but the plant is heavy bearing, so may need support from staking or caging. Indeterminate, 85 days from transplant. Packet contains at least 30 seeds.
